Giving back can be one of the most rewarding feelings. Best of all, even volunteering a small amount of your time, money, or other resources can make a big impact for someone in need.

Below are some beloved causes worth donating to, to help make a difference in someone’s life.

  • Helen Keller International

Founded in 1915, Helen Keller International has been establishing programs to fight malnutrition and blindness. Their goal is to help foster poverty-stricken individuals so that they can live healthy lives. They do this by treating malnourished children, growing better food, sharing knowledge, and eliminating diseases.

Since being founded, Helen Keller International has assisted over 57.5 million people with their healthcare and nutritional needs. The organization supports individuals in 20 countries and counting.

Food Forward is a Southern California-based non-profit. To support communities experiencing food insecurity, Food Forward saves fresh produce and delivers it to those who need it. Not only does their organization help feed those who are hungry, but it also assists in reducing food waste.

250 million pounds of produce, or a billion servings, has been saved and distributed by Food Forward. They operate their non-profit in Los Angeles but serve 11 other California counties, six nearby states, and even tribal lands.

Did you know that a whopping 1 in 20 kids and young individuals in the United States are in the foster care system? At present, over 120,000 youth are waiting for a forever family to adopt them. What is worse, youth “age out” of the foster care system at just 18. Within four years of aging out, an estimated 1 in 4 ex-foster children end up homeless.

With a 87% success rate, Youth Villages uses tried and true methods of treatment to support those struggling in the foster system. Their goal is to create a smooth transition for these individuals, from foster care to adulthood.

  • DAV (Disabled American Veterans)

Created by World War I veterans in 1920, DAV is dedicated to helping disabled war heroes and their families. The organization works to ensure veterans are able to get the benefits and care that they deserve. They’re big believers in ensuring our nation’s vets don’t have to be alone through the process of re-adjusting to civilian life.

Disabled American Veterans has helped over a million veterans in 2021. With donations that year, the non-profit was able to help vets achieve over $25 billion in benefits, provide over 160,000 rides to veterans in need of medical care, and help veterans file over 150,000 claims.

  • Operation Underground Railroad

Operation Underground Railroad is one of many anti child trafficking organizations to donate to. The goal of this non-profit is to help rescue child sex trafficking victims and provide aftercare for survivors.

To date, O.U.R. has provided rescue to over 6,000 children in all 50 U.S. states and in over 40 countries.

You can never go wrong with helping someone in need when you have the drive, will, and resources to do so. From Operation Underground Railroad to Food Forward, there are numerous causes you can donate to. Supporting just causes like these can truly help individuals who are impoverished and in difficult situations.
