Arsenal has reportedly activated a one-year extension of Bukayo Saka’s contract.

The English international had inked a 3-year deal with the option of extending it for a year following Arsenal’s FA Cup triumph in 2020. By activating the one-year contract extension Saka will remain with Arsenal till the 2023-2024 season (via Sports Mole).

The Gunners who are currently first in the Premier League are enjoying their domestic campaign given the scintillating form they are in. With 16 games being played so far the Gunners have won 14, drawn one, and lost once.

The club who are on a quest to win the Premier League see Saka playing a crucial role for them going forward hence they are exploring a deal to tie him to the club on a longer term as well.

Both the parties who have been engrossed in contract negotiations are optimistic about a deal being reached. The 21-year-old is having a fine season with the gunners as he has fired 7 goals and 6 assists in 22 matches across all competitions. Saka had an eventful campaign with the Three Lions in the World Cup as he scored 3 goals in 4 appearances for them.

Touted to be one of the best young players in the World Saka has scored 30 goals and grabbed 35 assists in 157 outings for the club. Arsenal will be keen on inking a new longer contract as soon as possible given the interest shown by Liverpool and Manchester City who will be looking to lure him for free if a new deal hasn’t been reached.

The Gunners are also looking to extend the contracts of Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba who have played a pivotal role for Arteta’s side so far.

Arsenal has activated a 12-month extension in William Saliba’s contract which will tie him to the club till 2024. The club wanted to retain the Frenchmen’s services however they are proactively looking to agree on a new long-term contract as well.

Meanwhile, Martilleni’s current contract runs till 2024 however the club will have the option of extending it for another two years. The Brazillian international in November had said that we was eager to sign a contract extension and just needed a pen to sign it. Speaking to reporters at Arsenal’s pre-Zurich press conference he said.

“I want to stay they just need to give me a pen.”

He added: “I am very happy at Arsenal. I said it many times, I love to be here. I love the city, I love everything about Arsenal so I want to stay.”

“Yeah, just need to get a pen.”

Arsenal will have the opportunity to extend their lead to a further 10 points if they manage to beat Newcastle United on Tuesday night.
