HOUSTON — Crude inventory in the U.S. emergency reserves fell by 8.4 million barrels in the week to Sept. 9 to 434.1 million barrels, according to data from the Department of Energy.

The 8.4 million-barrel draw from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) was the steepest draw since May and brings the stockpile to its lowest since October 1984. (Reporting by Arathy Somasekhar in Houston;)
