Draupadi Murmu, the new President of India, is the country’s first tribal woman to win the top constitutional post. Murmu, a BJP leader, was NDA’s candidate for Presidential Election 2022 and had a clear edge over her political opponent Yashwant Sinha.

The front-runner to succeed Ram Nath Kovind as President of India is Draupadi Murmu, the NDA’s presidential candidate. Murmu competed for this top constitutional post against Yashwant Sinha, the joint opposition’s nominee but had a clear edge of victory.

A soft-spoken leader, Draupadi Murmu entered Odisha politics via pure effort. Being elected as the president, she has become the only second woman and the first tribal person to assume the highest office. Murmu was also the first tribal woman to hold the office of governor in the state of Jharkhand.
