Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc., has tapped Hsiao Wang as senior vice president and chief information officer of the organization. The appointment comes as the company is reinforcing its leadership and launching a tech-focused committee.
As part of the executive leadership team, Wang will lead IT strategy, implementation, and innovation for Walgreens Boots Alliance. He will be focusing on digital experiences for consumers and patients, and delivering tech-enabled healthcare solutions for Walgreens and Walgreens Health.
Wang brings a strong background in IT, previously serving as executive vice president CIO for The Michaels Company where he managed product development, engineering, and operations for all tech functions.
He has also worked for Walmart in a series of roles across technology and IT, including as SVP and CTO for Sam’s Club. In that role, he implemented AI, robotics, image and speech recognition, and mobile capabilities, developing the future of automation and deep learning to accelerate tech product development from a 12-18 month timeline to just four weeks.
“Joining a company with such strong consumer trust and a clear vision to be the leading partner in reimagining local healthcare and wellbeing for all is a tremendous opportunity. I am excited to work with an outstanding team to lead the continued transformation of technology and digital innovation at WBA, as well as unlock and create consumer-centric healthcare solutions,” said Wang.
Wang is taking over for Francesco Tinto, who spent three years with the company, overseeing partnerships with Microsoft and Adobe to expedite digital modernization. Wang will assume his new role on September 26, and report to Roz Brewer, CEO, WBA.
“We are making tremendous progress on our strategic priorities, including transforming and aligning our core business and building our next growth engine with consumer-centric healthcare solutions. With today’s announcements, we are entering our next phase of execution and elevating our capabilities even further,” said Brewer.
Additional Core Changes
The company also recently formed a finance and technology committee, reshaping the existing finance committee to reflect “the importance and significance of technology to achieving the company’s goals.” Walgreens Boots Alliance said that as the company accelerates its healthcare platform and global infrastructure, this committee will oversee the strategic growth of technology across major customer initiatives, emerging innovations, and significant trends.
